Know Your Camera By Scott Ruhs of Atlantic Dreams Photography & Art Do you want to become a better photographer? I know I do. The best way to do that is hands-on experience. One way to do this is to get familiar with everything about the photo equipment you use. In the beginning this will likely only consist of your camera. It doesn't matter what kind of camera you are using. Just get to know it really well. Learn what every button and setting does and how it affects your images. Give yourself an assignment each day to use a particular feature or setting on your camera. For example, manipulate the shutter speed to see what affect it has on your photos. Take multiple shots of a ceiling fan for example using different shutter speeds. Note that faster shutter speeds will freeze the movement of the fan blades, while slower ones will blur the movement of the fan blades. If you practice with a different button/setting each day you will soon be very familiar with your camera and it will become second nature. As you gather more equipment take this same approach.
